Michael Duffie is Winner of the 2019 DISH Up and Comer Award
March 1, 2019
16 year old barrel racer Michael Duffie is the recipient of the 2019 DISH UP and Comer Award!
Among the many compelling stories throughout the first five years of THE AMERICAN, there is no question that one of the most heartwarming is the fact that no matter how old or young a competitor, they actually have a legitimate opportunity of qualifying for the Semi-Finals – from a ten-year-old, Chayni Chamberlain winning the Barrel Racing Semi-Finals in 2015, to grandmother June Holeman, who also won the Barrel Racing Semi-Finals in 2014, at the age of 70.
In 2019, the returning Presenting Sponsor, DISH, is awarding $5,000 to the youngest qualifier in any discipline advancing the furthest in the Semi-Finals. Competitors cannot be older than 18 years of age, and the money is to be used to help fund post high school education.
